공든탑/Pagoda

In this show I present pagodas (or a three story pagoda) consist with the figures and images

produced during my stay in NYC for last several months.  I call it Pagoda because it is a

commemorative monument of my artistic values.   I call it 공든탑 as well, for its states of becoming

towards a Pagoda.

By calling it 공든탑, I wish what I made would never fall apart and/or my effort would

never be wasted. However, I understand that things have an existence dependent upon

many causes and factors including a consciousness. Therefore, I like it to be in an

accidental, transient, and evanescent state.

Each piece has levels speak on the same thing and yet in a different way.

With the repetitive differences, it hopefully reveals the transitory nature of things.

And through the repetition and difference I also hope ‘a’ meets ‘the’,

  the emptiness of inherent existence.

I value the unfixed and impermanent entity of things,

which reflects the existence of a self that changes from moment to moment

upon the continuity of mind and body.
